Local Rules Change at Every Line
Around Sarasota, the fence rules depend on exactly where your house sits. Unincorporated Sarasota County exempts residential wood, vinyl and chain link fences from a building permit but not aluminum. The City of Sarasota caps fences at 6.5 ft. North Port skips the permit for fences 6 ft and under. Bradenton requires a zoning permit, and Manatee County, which covers part of Lakewood Ranch, generally requires a building permit. Longboat Key is its own town, and Englewood straddles Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
Conditions change too. Barrier-island homes on Siesta Key and Longboat Key need salt-proof materials and stainless hardware. Canal lots in North Port and Venice want open fencing on the water side. Larger inland lots in Fruitville and east of I-75 often mix chain link with privacy fencing near the house. Whichever area you're in, the estimate is free.
Each area page covers the permit office, local lot and storm conditions, and the fences that suit that community. Don't see your neighborhood? We likely serve it. Call (941) 882-9722 and ask.
